<p><em><strong>David, Lauren, Cail, &amp; Gabby</strong></em>: Today we covered two lessons in class &#8212; lesson 38 &amp; 39. Go into your settings in CMJ 2 to set it up in the right place.  The reason we covered two lessons is to make sure that the kids get 10 lessons in 8 weeks. The students didn&#8217;t seem to have any trouble covering both lessons and they were instructed (as usual) to complete Miss Melody at home. The main concepts that they are working on is note values, reading lines and spaces, and clapping rhythms. They need to be able to identify a note on the staff, so it&#8217;s important that he understands the music alphabet forward and backward. Please complete the following pages in the workbook if you haven&#8217;t done so already: <em>The White Keys, Note Values, The Staff, Reading Treble Clef C, D, and E. </em>If you have any questions, please post them below.</p>

<p><em><strong>Hunter, Aidan, Tyler &amp; (Lachlan was absent)</strong></em>: Today we covered two lessons in class &#8212; lesson 13 &amp; 14. Go into your settings in CMJ 1 to set it up in the right place.  The reason we covered two lessons is to make sure that the kids get 10 lessons in 8 weeks. The students didn&#8217;t seem to have any trouble covering both lessons and they were instructed (as usual) to complete Miss Melody at home. The main concepts that these boys are working on is together notes (playing notes at the same time), holding notes, finger numbers (right &amp; left hand from middle C) and making a nice &#8216;ant tunnel&#8217; (i.e. shape of their hands so an ant could crawl under their fingers) so their hands are placed properly on the piano. Please complete the following pages in the workbook if you haven&#8217;t done so already: <em>The Music Alphabet Forward </em>and<em> Backwards, Moving by Step, Notes Stepping up </em>and<em> Notes Stepping Down. </em>If you have any questions, feel free to post below.</p>

<p><em><strong>Griffin (absent)</strong></em>: Griffin would have covered Lesson 2 and 3 in CMJ 1 software. He can try it at home and if he has any difficulties, it&#8217;s not a big deal to catch him up in class. The main concepts he&#8217;s working on is high and low, and now middle C is introduced by a picture of a man in a boat. This is key specific on the piano, and is in the middle of the keyboard to the left of a two black key group. Please complete the following pages in the workbook if you haven&#8217;t done so already: <em>High Notes and Low Notes, Music Alphabet, Groups of 2 black keys, Middle C, MusIQ Club High and Low.</em> <em> </em>If you have any questions, please post them below.</p>

			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>We had a wonderful class today! After reviewing some concepts and talking about our teachers while the students ate their lunch, we spent some time in Concertmaster where we learned about the black key patterns and played “I Spy a Note”, as well as doing some note playbacks and working on “Hot Cross Buns”, “Upside Down Buns” and “Ode to Joy”. We then discussed what “Improvisation” is (making up your own songs on the spot) and while I played “Reflections”, everyone had a turn improvising using the white keys on their pianos. It sounded great!  On the floor at the end of class, we also did some Sight-singing!  We sang 4 beat rhythms using C, D , and E!</p>
<p><strong>Beginner Level 1A</strong></p>
<p>Today, we learned about our new teacher, Mr. Bach.  You found it amazing that he had 20 kids, and still had time to compose, teach and perform music!  In Lesson 6, Mr. Bach taught us about holding notes and you did very well with this concept in your lesson.  Well done! Please remember to bring your folders to class so that we can work on your songs!</p>
<p><em><strong>This Week @ Home</strong></em></p>
<ul>
<li>In CMJ volume 1 (if you have it) review Lesson 6 and have fun in the <a id="MIVA_LINK_6_0_1" name="MIVA_LINK_6_0_1" href="http://todayinmusiqclub.com/2011/01/17/mondays-sunnybrae-week-3/#" target="_blank"></a>practice and Improvisation rooms.</li>
<li>Practice “Love Somebody” if you have it.  Place your right hand thumb on middle “C” and follow the finger numbers!  If you don’t have a keyboard, you can practice the finger numbers on a book. </li>
<li>You can also try some of your other songs.  Please bring your book so I can work on these with you!</li>
<li>If you have the worksheet on “Holding Notes&#8221;, please complete and bring to our next class!</li>
</ul>
<p><strong>Level </strong><strong>2A</strong></p>
<p>Today, we did Lesson 34 where we learned about some more &#8220;Grown-up&#8221; holding notes.  After the Lesson, you went to the Improvisation room.  Great work today!  Your worksheet today will review the two Tricky notes that you learned about last week, &#8220;Balancing B&#8221; and &#8220;Dangling D&#8221;.  Don&#8217;t forget your booklet so that we can work on your songs!</p>
<p><em><strong>This Week @ Home</strong></em></p>

<li>Practice “Hot Cross Buns/Upside Down Buns” and any other songs in your booklet!</li>

<p>Welcome to our second weekly class blog. I will be posting homework assignments here as well as keeping you, the parent, updated as to what we cover in each class.</p>
<p>Matthew, Eric, Gabriel, and I were very happy to welcome our 3 guests, Aden, Kalvin and Jared to our class, We missed Rylee who was sent home early because of the snow, see you next week Rylee!</p>
<p>We started off together on the floor with a review so Matthew, Eric and Gabriel could help our guests learn some of the cool stuff we learned last session. We talked about &#8221;two black keys down to C&#8221; and &#8220;three black keys down to F&#8221; We reviewed the musical alphabet both forward and backward CDEFGABC and CBAGFEDC, and then when the boy noticed it wsa a pettern that matched up with the white notes of the keyboard we tried singing the alphabet starting on many differnt notes. We started on F, B, D and we noticed that the notes are always in the same order no matter where you start to sing it! Cool observation my friends. Next we tried a game call musical alphabet steps. In this game I hold up two cards if they notes are next to each other in the musical alphabet (and therefore next to each other on the piano) they could take one step, if they were not they had to stay still. They even got the tricky ones like G and A which in music do come next to each other!</p>
<p>At the computers Matthew did lesson and practice 16 &#8220;stepping songs&#8221; with Miss Mendelssohn and Miss Melody then lesson 17 too. He did very well and most importantly is using all his fingers and playing with a good position! Gabriel has been working very hard at home he did lesson 21 with Mr. Villa-Lobos.  Eric did lessons 13 &#8220;two hands together&#8221; with Mr. Joplin. This lessons reviews hand position and works on both hands. He did a fantastic job, just watch when he practices at home that all fingers are being used and not just finger number 2 which is a habit many kids get into in these first few lessons. Our guests all did lessons 2 &#8220;middle C&#8221; and 3 &#8220;Tapping rhythms&#8221; with Mr. Beethoven! They opened up two cool games to play which work on learning whrer the high and low note and middle C are found on the keyboard. they all did a fabulous job and alos had fun exploring the librarywhere they can listen to music and the improvisation room where they can play with the sounds of many differnt types of instruments  in all differnt syles.</p>
<p>We finished by listening to a cool song called &#8221; In the Hall of the Mountain King&#8221; which tella  story by using loud and soft and fast and slow notes. We acted out the story of a little boy who sneaks into the Troll King&#8217;s mountain castle.</p>

<p>Welcome to week 2 of our class blog. I will be posting homework assignments here as well as keeping you, the parent, updated as to what we cover in each class.</p>
<p>Today, Sophie, Thomas, Grady, Martin, and Autumn  were happy to welcome Josh and sam back to MusIQ club and our guest Logan.</p>
<p>We started off eating our lunches and once most of us were done we started the super fun keyboard race game! In this game each group gets 1 game piece and puts it on the lowest note of a keyboard. Then we take turns drawing a card that tells us how to move our game piece. It might say something like &#8220;move up to the next G&#8221;, or &#8220;moved down two white keys&#8221;, or even &#8220;move to middle C.&#8221; So we had to use the musical alphabet and our saying &#8220;two black keys down to C&#8221; to find which ever note we needed to move our piece to! Lots of fun</p>
<p>At the computers each child is at a different level in this class so I supervised while they worked on their individual lessons.  Sophie did lesson 84 learning Interval of a 4th with Mr. Debussy she worked hard learning to play  the new piece introduced last week called Musette. Thomas did lesson and practice room 66 &#8211; &#8220;Sharps&#8221; with Mr. Dvorak. Grady did lesson and practice 18 &#8220;Playing songs&#8221; with Miss Mendelssohn. Martin worked very hard on lesson 14 &#8220;Musical Alphabet&#8221; with Mr. Joplin. Both boys are doing a great job playing with all 5 fingers and making perfect ant tunnels to keep their fingers on the finger tips while they play. Autumn did lessons 29 and 30 today with Mr. Dvorak which were the end of the review section and next week she will meet her new teacher Mr. Mozart to start &#8220;grown up notes&#8221;. Sam and Josh did lesson 34 &#8211; treble clef &#8211; CDE with Mr. Mozart. They also worked in piano suite on &#8220;Let it Be&#8221;.</p>
<p>Away from the computers, Grady and Martin filled out the notes on a pretend keyboard using the musical alphabet. Sam and Josh did 4/4 and 3/4 rhythms for each other to try to clap.</p>
<p>We all finished with games, and improvisation room, I was able to circulate and check how each child was doing. Below is the homework for each child, print of the worksheet for your child and have them try to complete it and return it to me next week in class!</p>

			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>Hello! We had a very good class together again today. We started out our class with everyone focusing nicely on their particular lessons. Then we did a new rhythm/listening activity where we learned about rhythms in triplets (eighth notes in groups of 3 instead of in 2 like we are used to). We learned to count these rhythms and read them on the cards, and then to hear these rhythms in action I introduced you to <a href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4P5JfaUq0BM&amp;context=C3c7022aADOEgsToPDskLve_0YRfS3U11XKzEpzBRq" target="_blank">Mr. Beethoven’s 5th Symphony, 3rd movement.</a>We conducted with the conductor, and sang the rhythm of the second theme both times that it was played. Nice job with this! After this we headed to Concertmaster for some solos! It was great to hear so many of you eager to show your skills and share a performance with the class!</p>
<p><strong>Level 1<br />
</strong></p>
<p>Today we did <strong>lesson 28</strong> with Mr. Dvorak to continue practicing neighbour notes and work on the Musical Alphabet forwards and backwards. You had to use all of your fingers today and read the finger numbers carefully to play the songs correctly, which you did very well! Playing back rhythms was the trickiest part today, but this is new, so it is ok if it is a bit challenging, we will keep working on it! We also worked on learning the names of the white keys today, (Group of two [black keys] Down to C, and Group of 3 Down to F. From there you can count forwards or backwards to find the names of the neighbour notes!) Liam also went ahead to <strong>Lesson 29</strong>, which he can review this week at home.</p>
<p><em><strong>This Week @ Home</strong></em></p>
<ul>
<li>If you have CMJ volume 2 at home, you should review lesson 28 with Miss Melody, and head to the games room.</li>
<li>Continue working on some Letter Tunes from your workbook at your keyboard this week. Remember to use all 5 fingers, one for each white key, not just playing the whole song with your pointer finger!</li>
<li>Practice finding all the Cs from highest to lowest, all the Fs, then all the Ds and all the Bs, which are C’s neighbours.</li>
<li>Practice saying the Musical Alphabet backwards: G F E D C B A. Can you say it?</li>
<li>Complete the next worksheet in your workbook!</li>
</ul>
<p><strong>Level 2B</strong></p>
<p>Faye and Rebecca are is in Level 2B now, and they are on track to finish 2B and 2C this term! Great job girls! Today we did <strong>Lesson 44</strong>, where they learned some new songs using a new note, Treble Clef F, one note higher than the C D E set of notes we have been getting comfortable with in your right hand! We also did the start of Lesson 46 with your new teacher, Mr. Satie. You can complete the worksheets we talked about in your workbook and try out Lessons 46 and 47 at home this week. Pay special attention to those tricky rhythm tapping exercises &#8211; stick right with that woodpecker and go the same speed as him! Your rhythms were much much better this week already. I&#8217;m going to bring you more 2B worksheets next week.</p>
<p><strong>Advanced Level 2/3</strong></p>
<p>Today Jarrett worked on Daydream Believer and a Technique exercise to practice playing <em>legato and staccato</em>, two music terms for smooth and bouncy. He also started the Angry Birds theme song. You can work on these at home as well and complete your worksheets. Daniel continues to work on Ten Little Wanderers hands together. Check your rhythms, make sure you are not too fast on the eighth notes, and then go right to the next beat one. Counting &#8220;Together, Together Right Together, Together Right Together&#8221; tends to help with the timing and coordination of this particular piece. =) You can also review the F Major scale as Ten Little Wanderers is in F Major! Next week we will add the next piece! Great work!</p>

Playing back rhythms was the trickiest part today, but this is new, so it is ok if it is a bit challenging, we will keep working on it! We also worked on learning the names of the white keys today, (Group of two [black keys] Down to C, and Group of 3 Down to F. From there you can count forwards or backwards to find the names of the neighbour notes!)</p>

<p><strong>Level 2A</strong><em><strong></strong></em></p>
<p>Today we did <strong>Lesson 34</strong>, where Mr. Mozart reviewed the Treble Clef and the notes C, D, and E, and taught you several new songs using these three notes. Remember how you can tell the difference between the notes: Middle C has it’s own little line below the Treble Staff, D is a space note that dangles down from the bottom line (Dangling D if you will), and E is a line note. After playing the note reading games in the games room, you played a very fun board game at the table with Miss Rhonda, Grand Staff Race. This game is great for learning how the notes move on the staff.</p>
<p><em><strong>This Week @ Home</strong></em></p>

<p>Georgia is in 2B and she completed <strong>Lesson 42</strong> with her new teacher Mr. Tchaikovsky. Today Georgia learned that the music word for <em>loud</em> is forte and the music word for soft is <em>piano</em>. Abotu 4 seconds later she raised her hand with a very good question: &#8220;Why is the piano called a soft?&#8221; The piano&#8217;s full name is pianoforte, because it was the first keyboard instrument that could play loud or soft, depending on how you &#8220;struck&#8221; the keys. Up until then keyboard instruments such as harpsichords, organs, and clavichords, were either loud or soft, if you could adjust the volume it was done with some buttons before you started playing. This new invention, the pianoforte, was very exciting for composers and performers, and a lot of the first music written for the pianoforte specifically had a lot of dynamics (fortes and pianos) written in to add interest and drama. So, Georgia is now a pro at dynamics, and she can complete the worksheet on dynamics at home, and review Lesson 42!</p>
<p>Young Caitlyn had her mind blown today in <strong>Lesson 69</strong> where she learned about flats. In the same way that a sharp sign tells you to raise a note one half-step to the right, a flat sign tells you to lower a note one half-step to the left. Please review Lesson 69 at home and complete the worksheet on flats!</p>

			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>Hello everyone, and welcome to MusIQ, where each week we  learn how to read music and play cool songs on the keyboard!  Every week is a new adventure whether we are playing &#8216;high bird&#8217; notes and &#8216;low whale&#8217; notes with Mr.Beethoven, listening to jazz with Mr.Joplin, going over the musical alphabet with Mr.Bach, practicing your rhythms with Miss.Melody, playing games, or jamming to your own beats in the &#8216;improv&#8217; room! There&#8217;s always lot&#8217;s to do and learn. Come to think of it, do you guys remember what we learnt this week?</p>
<p>Taylor, Drew, Maryfur and Heidi: One would never guess that you guys are new to musIQ, you all were cruising along in your lessons with Mr.Beethoven; so far you guys have learnt about a very important key and letter in the musical alphabet: middle c; and as its name indicates it is right smack in the middle of keyboard! The notes above middle c are played with your right hand, and called high bird notes; while the notes below middle c are played with your left hand and are called low whale notes.</p>
<p>Jonathan  Gabby and Liam: You completed lessons 14 and 15 with Mr.Joplin and were working on the “hot cross buns” song. Just remember to always have your 1st fingers (thumbs) always placed on middle c and the rest of the notes will be very easy to play! Great job!</p>
<p>Djef and Megan: You are both doing very well with Miss. Mendelssohn,   the grand staff and all it’s components such as the treble and bass clefs!  A helpful saying to remember the treble clef staff space notes: FACE. For the line notes: Every Good Boy Deserves Fudge. For the bass clef staff space notes: All Cows Eat Grass. Line notes: Glad Bags Don’t Fall Apart. These sayings may sound silly but that will help you remember the names of the notes on the staffs that much better!!</p>

			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>We had another great class this week. We started by listening to Mr. Beethoven’s Moonlight Sonata while we ate our lunches. We talked about what we heard, and what we thought about while we were listening, and how music can make us feel different feelings. Then we went to our keyboards and reviewed “Group of 2, Down to C” and learned “Group of 3, Down to F”. We practiced putting our thumbs on Middle C and the rest of our fingers in nice hand position (1’s sharing Middle C, 2’s on B and D, etc… nice rounded fingers like in “Funky Monkey”)</p>
<p><strong>Level 1A’s</strong> (Ella and Olivia)</p>
<p>Today we did lesson 5 with Mr. Beethoven. We talked about circle notes and drew them on the whiteboard. We drew circle notes on the Middle C line, high circle notes, and low circle notes, and then the girls drew the notes I sang. They did so well!</p>
<p>This Week At Home:</p>
<p>You can review lessons 1 through 5 with Mr. Beethoven in the Library, and practice with Miss Melody in the Practice Room. Do the 3<sup>rd</sup> worksheet and bring your workbook back Thursday for a sticker!</p>
<p><strong>Level 1’s</strong> (Nathan, Wayne, Gabby, Brianna, Ryanne, Desiree)</p>
<p>Today we reviewed our musical alphabet (A B C D E F and G) forwards and backwards, and got right to our lesson. It was a long one, but everyone played so well! Great hand position, good reading, and awesome turn taking! We did lesson 28 in CMJ2.</p>
<p>This Week At Home:</p>
<p>Review lessons 26, 27, and 28 and do the 3<sup>rd</sup> worksheet in your books. Look at the Repetoire in the back of your workbook and try playing a new song!</p>
<p><strong>Level 2A’s</strong> (Trysten, Lola, Caleb, James)</p>
<p>Today we did lesson 35 in CMJ2. Now we’ve worked on the treble staff and the bass staff. Great playing today.</p>
<p>This Week At Home:</p>
<p>Review lessons 32 to 35, and do the 3<sup>rd</sup> worksheet in your workbooks. Also, practice drawing treble G clefs and bass F clefs. Check in the back of your workbook for songs you can practice at home!</p>

<p>Welcome to week 2 of our class blog. I will be posting homework assignments here as well as keeping you, the parent, updated as to what we cover in each class.</p>
<p>Everyone made it to class today but I still recommend for parents to please include a note with your child&#8217;s lunch on Thursdays reminding them to go to MusIQ Club or send a note for the home room teacher to remind them!</p>
<p>We all ate our lunches together and took that time to review what we learned last week then move on to some more interesting and new concepts. We reviewed the musical alphabet (also know as the order of the white notes on the piano!), the finger number, hand position, how to find C and F, and then we practiced playing different combinations of fingers. The we started an important introduction to the grand staff, we learned the names of the Bass and treble clef also know as the F and G clefs and we saw how they helped us find the notes F and G respectively, then we learned where middle C, B and D are on the grand staff. what a good start my friends, we talked about how is we know those notes we can use the musical alphabet to figure out all the rest since each line or space represents one note.</p>
<p>Today Josh worked on  a new song. &#8220;Happy Birthday&#8221; uses two hands together so it was a great challenge. He also reviewed &#8221;Let it Be&#8221; which he started last week, he worked on getting it up to tempo this week. We worked on C major scale ascending and descending and contrary motion. He is doing very well with these. He also took some time to explore the recording studio and history happens sections of the program.</p>
<p>With Devin Hannah and Lauren we worked in Concert master. This is a program that allows up to &#8220;play out loud&#8221; through some speakers so we can hear each other. We did playbacks, this is where I play three or more notes and they play them back to me. Right now we are using finger numbers, later we will move to note names and eventually to just the notes with no verbal cues. This exercise is excellent for training the ears! After that we did  some worked on Old Grey Goose with the RH. Everyone is doing very well reading and using the right fingers while maintaining a good position. Next we did more Theory Thinker to learn about Whole, Half, and Quarter notes. We then reviewed them together away from the computers by making up and clapping our own rhythms in 4/4 and 3/4 time signatures. We learned that the top note tells us &#8220;how many&#8221; and the bottom note tell us &#8220;of what&#8221; in each bar. So 4/4 mean 4 quarter notes, and 3/4 means 3 quarter notes.</p>
<p>Home work:</p>
<p>Josh- homework this week is to practice &#8220;Let it Be&#8221; and &#8220;Happy Birthday&#8221; at home using the metronome, play the note placement game to work on note reading skills, and do this <a href="http://musiqclub.com/shared/teacher/files/L2_dottedhalf_ties.pdf" target="_blank">worksheet Click HERE to print</a> &lt;&#8211; same as last week because he didn&#8217;t hand it in yet!</p>
<p>Hannah, Lauren and Devin - On the Theory Thinker page there is a game called &#8220;Grand Staff Note Placement Game&#8221; try and use the musical alphabet and count up and down from middle C to find the notes. This will be a big challenge this week try to get 5 right! I promise it will get easier. Also play the &#8220;Word Play&#8221; game found on the bottom of the Theory Thinker page, the icon with ACE written across the keys. <p>Remember parents, just 5-10 minutes practice a day can help your child advance by reinforcing the things we learn in class and keeping it fresh in their minds. This year the software in included in your registration fee all you need is a MIDI keyboard and the fun can continue all week. If you need an appropriate keyboard you can either log into your account to order one from the office or call the office to order it. The link for the software will be sent you your email  so if your child is already registered and you haven’t gotten the link yet check your spam box! 			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>Hello Parents!</p>
<p>This was the second week of our MusIQ Club session. I was very excited to Welcome Vanya, Janelle, Bridget to our class and we had Lillian back for one more week with Kohen, Faith and I.</p>
<p>We started out on the floor together doing a review of the musical alphabet, how to find middle C, some fun clap backs, where everyone got to take a turn to make up a rhythms for the rest of us to clap back, and then we all got together to play the musical steps game. This is where I hold up two notes from the musical alphabet and if they are only a step apart the children take a step, but it they are not next to each other on the keyboard no one can move!</p>
<p>Bridget told me she piano lessons so we started her at lesson 30 &#8211; Grown up notes with Mr. Dvorak and she quickly was playing some new pieces! Wow great job. She enjoyed playing the games at the end especially the chef game!</p>
<p>Janelle and Vanya did lessons 1 and 2 with Mr. Beethoven and also practice rooms 1 and 2 with Miss Melody. They were very quick to pick it up and played a bunch of really fun songs using high and low notes and middle C. At the end they got to try two games, the more levels you do the more games open up, so they had fun trying out the first two games.</p>
<p>Faith and Kohen worked very hard this week at lessons 17 and 18 &#8211; &#8220;playing and singing song&#8221; with Miss Mendelssohn, today they were able to complete both lessons and practice room 18. They are both doing a good job remembering to use all five fingers of each hand instead of just the pointer finger of the RH!! The have some fun songs at these levels like &#8220;Mary had a little lamb&#8221;  for the Right hand and &#8220;Mary had a Big Fat Sheep&#8221; for the Left hand! they also do a great &#8220;Upside down buns&#8221;, this is like &#8220;hot cross buns&#8221; but for the left hand. They are reading more and more notes and I am so please with their progress!</p>
<p>We all finished the  class with games and improvisation room. Hope to see some of our guests back next week.</p>

<p>Remember parents, just 5-10 minutes practice a day can help your child advance by reinforcing the things we learn in class and keeping it fresh in their minds. This year the software in included in your registration fee all you need is a MIDI keyboard and the fun can continue all week. If you need an appropriate keyboard you can either log into your account to order one from the office or call the office to order it. The link for the software will be sent you your email  so if your child is already registered and you haven’t gotten the link yet check your spam box! Any problems with the download or installation contact the office.</p>

<p>This was week two of MusIQ Club.</p>
<p>We were very happy to welcome Cohen and Max to our class.</p>
<p>We all ate our lunches together while we reviewed High and Low notes, the musical alphabet, how to find middle C. We also did some clapbacks. This is where the kids have to use their listening skills to clap back a rhythm after hearing me clap it. It works on listening and rhythmic skills. We did three variations, first with word phrases &#8220;I like pup-py dogs&#8221; (long long short short long) then with just numbers &#8220;1 2 3&amp; 4&#8243; finally I just clapped it with no verbal clues. Overall they did very well with this. After finishing our lunches we headed to the computers.</p>
<p>Rachael did lesson 30 &#8211;  with Mr. Dvorak, she is now working on &#8220;grown -up notes&#8221; she is learning about quarter, half and whole notes and how many beats each one gets!</p>
<p>Evan, Lily, Will, Cade, Jack, Kaleb and Mohamed  got started with their teacher Mr. Beethoven. He taught them Lesson 3 &#8211; &#8220;short/long rhythms&#8221;. They reviewed where to find the high and low notes on the keyboard and then to practiced playing both types of notes. They practiced tapping out rhythms with Mr. Beethoven on middle C. After the lesson we did the practice room with Miss Melody where we review everything learned in the lesson. Then the fun part comes with games! Lesson three unlocked a new game called &#8220;Bongo Boy&#8221; this a very challenging game and they have to listen very carefully to tap out the exact same rhythms in order to beat bong boy at his own game!  The games are designed to reinforce the concepts learned in the lessons.</p>
<p>Max and Cohen did lessons 1 &amp; 2 with Mr. Beethoven. They learned about high bird notes and low whale notes in lesson 1 and then in lesson 2 they learned how to find the all important middle c!!! At the end of class they did a bit of lesson 3 so they are now all caught up with the rest fo the kids even though this was their first class, good work boys.</p>
<p>After the lessons, we all sat down and closed our eyes while we listened to the piece &#8220;In the Hall os the Mountain King&#8221; and saw how music can use loud and soft, fast and slow to tell a story. The we finished back at the computers with visits to the library or improvisation rooms!</p>

<p>I was so happy to be back for MusIQ Club with all my friends at Windsor St. Daycare. I was especially happy to welcome Brett and Desire to our group!</p>
<p>Group 1: Brett, Desire, Kieran, Hudson, Caleb, Sam, Cam &amp; London</p>
<p>We started out with a review to make sure everyone remembered the things we learned last term, and also to introduce  these important musical concepts to our new students, we practiced identifying high and low notes, then we even sang some of each, we remembered our special phrase &#8220;two black keys down to C&#8221; that helps us find out most important note Middle C! We sang the musical alphabet both forward and backward and talked about which side of the keyboard has the high notes and how the low notes had to be on the opposite side! Then off we went to the keyboards to try our lessons with Mr. Beethoven. Brett and Desire did lesson 1 &#8211; &#8220;High Bird Low Whale&#8221; and what a great job they did finding all the high bird notes and low whale notes! they even composed their own three note song along with Mr. Beethoven. Eceryone else did  Lesson 5 &#8211; review with Mr. Beethoven. int his lesson they review all the concepts from the first 4 lessons and practices so they are ready to meet their now teacher Mr. Bach who will teach them some even more exciting musical ideas next. I was very pleased to see that everyone remembered almost everything from last term! Excellent work friends.  Homework: Please review the lesson at home with your child and spend a few minutes playing the games together! Brett and Desire lesson 1, everyone else lesson 5!</p>
<p>Group 2: Macy, Earle,  Stella, Ally, Shaelynn, Sam, &amp; Rinta</p>
<p>We started with a review of high and low sounds, some high and low sing backs and the musical alphabet forward and back.  We practiced finding middle C on our pretend keyboard by saying &#8220;two black keys down to C&#8221;. And reviewed which side of the key board has the nigh notes and which has the low. We also practiced clap backs. This is where I clap a rhythm and the kids use their listening skills then clap it back to me. They love to use silly word phrases to practice the rhythms, try some at home like &#8220;I like puppy-dogs&#8221; (long long short short long). Today at the computers Stella, Shaelynn, and Ally did Lesson 8 &#8211; Double notes with Mr. Bach. They worked on playing tweo notes at the same time one with each hand. Rinta did Lesson 6, and reviewed everything learned so far including circle notes. This is learning to read circle instead of birds and whales. Sam was absent this week but will pick up at lesson 7 next week.   We finished off with games. Home work: parents complete the following together with your child: Stella, Shaelynn, Ally do lesson 8, Sam do practice room 6, Rinta do Lesson 6. The rest of the week play the games together, just 5 minutes a day is all it takes.</p>
<p>Everyone listened very well this week, and tried hard to complete the lesson.  Remember parents, this year the software is included in your registration fee. You will get an email with a code, a link, and instructions to download and install the software, your children will be in <strong>Children&#8217;s Music Journey Volume 1</strong>. You can purchase a<strong> midi keyboard</strong> through the office, or use one yu already have if it is midi compatible and the fun can continue at home all week! I suggest just 5 minutes a couple times a week if possible to keep reinforcing the concepts they learn in class.</p>

			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>WELCOME BACK EVERYONE! I hope that everyone had a wonderful Christmas, New Years, and Lunar New Year!</p>
<p>Today was the first day back for MusIQ Club and it was awesome! Everyone did a great job and was patient throughout the chaos. <img src='http://s0.wp.com/wp-includes/images/smilies/icon_biggrin.gif' alt=':D' class='wp-smiley' /> </p>
<p>Aoi Seki  and Laila Stewart- Piano Suite 2 level 1</p>
<p>Today we had both girls begin at the Treble or G clef as a review, the girls did great and worked very hard.</p>
<p>Ashton Faggoa and Madison West-Pettigrew- 1B-level 15</p>
<p>They did EXCELLENT! They finished the lesson (They learned More Musical Steps- The Musical Alphabet with Mr.Joplin) AND got to play some games before the class was over! Because of the limited space in he classroom I have both of them on one keyboard, they have AWESOME sharing skills.</p>
<p>Hawksley Menard &#8211; Children&#8217;s Music Journey Level 1 Lesson 1</p>
<p>Today Hawksley learned about High &#8220;bird&#8221; notes and Low &#8220;whale&#8221; notes and did great! Was focused and concentrated, had a few questions and was unsure how to use the program at first but once I explained it to him he breezed through the WHOLE lesson by himself! He even had enough time to play GAMES after.</p>
<p>Turki Hashem Level 2C lesson 49</p>
<p>Turki did well today! Was a little loud and talkative, so I had to ask him to quite down a few times. He did an excellent job with the lesson! Today with Mr.Satie he learned about More Grand Staff Songs. Unfortunately he didn&#8217;t get to finish his practice with Miss Melody, but we can finish that next week and hopefully also complete another lesson as well!</p>
<p>Everyone did EXCELLENT today! THANK YOU AND KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK!</p>
<p>Also, DON&#8217;T FORGET that we have class NEXT WEEK at 12:00pm in the HUMAN RESOURCES ROOM while is located DOWNSTAIRS!</p>

			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>We had a wonderful class today!  After reviewing some concepts while the students ate their lunch, we spent some time in Concertmaster where we learned about the black key patterns and played &#8220;I Spy a Note&#8221;, as well as doing some note playbacks and working on &#8220;Hot Cross Buns&#8221;, &#8220;Upside Down Buns&#8221; and &#8220;Ode to Joy&#8221;.  Alex played &#8220;Ode to Joy&#8221; for everyone and I was very impressed!  He should find it easy over the next couple of weeks to add the left hand &#8220;Sticky Notes&#8221;!  Then, we discussed what &#8220;Improvisation&#8221; is (making up your own songs on the spot) and while I played &#8220;Reflections&#8221;, everyone had a turn improvising using the white keys on their pianos.  It sounded great! </p>
<p><strong>Level 1B</strong></p>
<p>Today,  we did lesson 15 with Mr. Joplin in CMJ Volume 1, where we practiced notes that moved by step. The 1Bs learned more about &#8221;Neighbour notes&#8221; today.  After our lesson, Ava had fun putting the Musical Alphabet in order, both forwards and backwards.  Great work! </p>
<p><strong>This Week @ Home</strong></p>
<ul>
<li>Continue practicing your finger numbers. You can put your hands on your lap or a <a id="MIVA_LINK_2_0_0" name="MIVA_LINK_2_0_0" href="http://todayinmusiqclub.com/2012/01/19/wednesdays-sunnybrae-week-2-2/#" target="_blank"></a>desk and have a parent call out numbers from 1 to 5 for you!  It is really coming along Ava!</li>
<li>Complete the worksheet on ”Notes that are Neighbour Notes” and bring it to class next week. </li>
<li>Have some fun at your piano making up your own music!</li>
<li>If you have CMJ at home, you can review lesson 15 with Mr. Joplin and Miss Melody and then head to Improvisation room.</li>
<li>Keep practicing &#8220;Hot Cross Buns&#8221; and “Love Somebody” at home. </li>
</ul>
<p><strong>Level 1</strong></p>
<p>Today, we did Lesson 28, where we continued to work on finger numbers and worked on strengthening the individual fingers.  It is tricky, but remember to give each finger a white key and play the finger number that is shown!  This will help your fingers to work independently.  Practice your finger numbers at home (see in This Week @ Home) and that should help!  After your lesson, we practiced some sight-singing on the floor and learned about some woodwind instruments like the flute and clarinet! Good job!</p>
<p><strong>This Week @ Home</strong></p>
<ul>
<li>Complete the worksheet on &#8220;White Keys &#8211; Colour by Letter Name&#8221; and bring to our next class. </li>
<li>Keep practicing “Love Somebody”, &#8220;Ode to Joy&#8221; and “Hot Cross Buns” which we worked on today in Concertmaster.</li>
<li>This week we want to get those fingers working even more. With your RH one day and then your LH the next, put fingers 1 2 3 4 5 on the keys, with your thumb on Middle C, just little Mr. Dvorak showed you. Practice keeping a nice “ant tunnel” with curved fingers, and your fingertips on the front half of the keys, not up in between the black keys. Have your adult at home call out 3 finger numbers for you to play. (Ex. start simply with 2 2 2, or 1 2 3, and gradually build up to 1 5 1, 2 3 4, 4 2 5, etc.) Then switch with your adult and see if THEY can play the finger patterns you make up!</li>
<li>Try clapping these rhythms with an adult at home. Remember to clap on the “&amp;”s: 1 2 3&amp;4 , 1&amp;2 3&amp;4, 1 2 3 4, 1 2 3 4&amp;, 1&amp;2&amp;3&amp;4, 1&amp;2&amp;3 4, etc. You can make up your own, too!</li>
<li>If you have CMJ2 at home, review Lesson 28 with Miss Melody and then head to the Improvisation room.</li>
</ul>
<p><strong>Level 2A</strong></p>
<p>Today, we did Lesson 36 where we did some more songs with Bass Clef notes C, B and A.   After your lesson, we practiced some sight-singing on the floor and learned about some woodwind instruments like the flute and clarinet!  We also reviewed the parts of the Grand Staff to help you with your homework for next week. Well done!</p>
<p><strong>This Week @ Home</strong></p>
<ul>
<li>Complete the worksheets on ”The Grand Staff Matching Game” and bring it to our next class! </li>
<li>Keep practicing “Hot Cross Buns” and “Upside Down Buns”, and &#8220;Ode to Joy&#8221; if you have it.  Try your other songs as well.</li>
<li>If you have CMJ2 at home, review Lesson 36 and then head to the Improvisation room.</li>
</ul>
<p><strong>Level 3B</strong></p>
<p>Today, we completed Lesson 78 where we learned about &#8220;Sticky Notes in the Left Hand&#8221; with our new teacher Mr. Haydn (we will find out more about him next week).  This is where you play a melody in the right hand and your left hand play the background or Bass notes.  You really enjoyed the &#8220;I Spy a Note&#8221; game and I was very impressed with how easily you were able to find those tricky flat and sharp notes!  We also sang some sight melodies and learned about woodwind instruments.  Good work today! </p>
<p><strong>This Week @ Home</strong></p>
<ul>
<li>Complete your worksheet on “Where is that Cat?&#8221;.</li>
<li>Keep practicing your songs.  You can also start to add the left hand &#8220;Sticky Note&#8221; part to “Ode to Joy”!</li>
<li>If you have CMJ3 at home, review Lesson 78 and then head to the Improvisation room.</li>
</ul>
