Windsor St. Daycare, Wednesday, 9:45-10:45 AM (Feb 22)

Welcome parents! Here is what we did in week 5 of MusIQ Club at Windsor St. Daycare.

Group 1: Brett, Desire, Kieran, Hudson, Caleb, Sam, Cam & London

We began by singing the musical alphabet both forward and backward and spent some extra time working on the more challenging backward one.  Then we reviewed our special phrase “two black keys down to C” that helps us find out most important note Middle C! We discussed how the letters of the musical alphabet are the names of the white notes on the piano and that they keep repeating so there are many C notes. But then we figured out that there is only 1 middle C and we talked about which side of the keyboard has the high notes and how the low notes had to be on the opposite side but middle C had to always be in the middle! We did some clap backs to work on our rhythms and learned to clap holding notes.

Then off we went to the keyboards to do our lessons. Brett and Desire did Lesson 3 - “Rhythm Tapping” with Mr. Beethoven they worked on tappin gout rhythms with long and short notes on middle C.  Kieran and London did Practice 6 – ¨Holding Notes¨ with Miss Melody, who hwelped them review how to play notes that are longer than 1 beat.  Everyone else did Lesson 7- “More Holding Notes” with Mr. Bach. He worked with them on playing notes worth more tham one beat.  Homework: Please review the Practice Room at home with your child and spend a few minutes playing the games together! Brett and Desire practice 3, Kieran and London Practice 6, everyone else practice 7!

Group 2: Macy, Earle(absent),  Stella, Ally, Shaelynn, Sam, & Rinta

We began by singing the musical alphabet both forward and backward.  Then we reviewed our special phrase “two black keys down to C” that helps us find out most important note Middle C! We discussed how the letters of the musical alphabet are the names of the white notes on the piano and that they keep repeating so there are many C notes. But then we figured out that there is only 1 middle C and we talked about which side of the keyboard has the high notes and how the low notes had to be on the opposite side but middle C had to always be in the middle.  We also practiced lots of clap backs to work on rhythms and reviewed how to clap holding notes. Last I sang three notes going either up or down and we tried guessing whether the notes were getting higher or lower.

Today at the computers Stella, Shaelynn, and Ally did Pracitce 10 - “Towards Middle C”with Miss melody. They worked on starting from either very high or low and playing notes that get closer and closer to middle C.  Rinta, & Macy did  Lesson 7 with mr. bach and worked on more holding notes.  Sam did Practice 8 this week – “Double notes” with Miss Melody. Home work: parents complete the following together with your child: Stella, Shaelynn, Ally do Practice 10, Sam do practice 8, Rinta, Macy & Earle do Lesson 7. The rest of the week play the games together, just 10 minutes twice a week is all it takes.

Remember parents, this year the software is included in your registration fee. You will get an email with a code, a link, and instructions to download and install the software, your children will be in Children’s Music Journey Volume 1. You can purchase a midi keyboard through the office, or use one you already have if it is midi compatible and the fun can continue at home all week! I suggest just 10 minutes a twice a week if possible to keep reinforcing the concepts they learn in class.
