Hello Parents!
This was what we did for week six of our MusIQ Club
Today we started with Concertmaster at the keyboards, this is where we play “out loud” through speakers in ensemble. First we tried to find all the Cs from high to low, then all the Fs from Low to high. These were very easy for Kohen and Faith so we started to try to find some harder notes like D and B. To find these you have to first find C then go either one note up or one note down. Big challenge. After that we worked on “Ode to Joy” which will be our recital piece. Today we reviewed how to count the clicks at the beginning to know when to come in, and we again sang through the finger numbers in tempo. This week we also played the first line together with the accompaniment.
Kohen did practice session 22 with Miss Melody he did a great job reviewing half notes and quarter notes, then he worked on “ode to joy”. He went on to do lesson 23 “Whole Notes” with his teacher composer Hector Villa-Lobos. After the lesson Kohen elected to skip games and do practice session 23 with Miss melody. Faith did lesson and practice 22 and worked on “Ode to Joy” with her new teacher Mr. Villa-Lobos. She did a great job on her pieces and learned about half and quarter notes, she is already next week to learn whole notes. Both kids are generally doing well with using all fingers but sometimes have trouble getting them lined up on the right notes since they have small hands and it can be a big stretch, when they go over the lessons at home help them out by pointing out if they have two fingers on one note as sometimes happens.
After the lessons we did some composing using the new types of note we learned, quarter, half, and whole notes. Then we actually went a played what we wrote on the keyboard!
Home work:
Faith – review Lesson & Practice 22 at home on different days.
Kohen – review Lesson 23 at home.
This is last week’s worksheet click HERE to print for Kohen who did not hand it in this week
This is the new worksheet click HERE to print for both Faith and Kohen please print it out and have your child bring it next Wednesday!
10 minutes practice twice a week can help your child advance by reinforcing the things we learn in class and keeping it fresh in their minds.
