Wednesdays @ Sunnybrae – Week 5

We had a great class today where everyone worked hard in Concertmaster!  First, we all took turns improvising on the white keys to “Reflecting” and then we made up our own songs on the blakc keys to “Blues on Black”.  Just to remember to use your right hand on the higher notes of the piano keyboard and play one note at a time.  I was really impressed with some of the melodies that I heard!  Then we played “I Spy a Note” and did  some Note Playbacks with our note cards.   Afterwards, we took turns working on our songs and spending some time in the Games and/or Improvisation rooms.  There were no lessons today, but I still assigned homework for you to complete.  Keep working on your songs at home as our recital is coming up in a few weeks!  We missed Gailin today, and look forward to seeing her next week.

Level 1B

Today, we worked in Concertmaster and worked on your songs.  You really enjoyed “Pop Pop Pop” and “Love Somebody” is coming along nicely Ava!

This Week @ Home

  • In CMJ volume 1 (if you have it) complete lessons 17 and 18  before heading to the Games room!
  • Keep practicing  ”Love Somebody” and ”Pop Pop Pop”.
  • You have 3 worksheets to do, “White Keys – Colour by Letter Name”, “White Keys – Spelling by Letter Name’ and “Miss Mendelssohn” worksearch.  You can do it!

Level 2A

Today, we worked in Concertmaster and you also made up a  2 bar melody in 4/4 time.  Remember to draw a bar line after 4 counts.  We will learn more about this next week in our lesson.  Well done, Gillian!

This Week @ Home

  • Practice “Hot Cross Buns/Upside Down Buns” and ”Alouette”.
  • If you have CMJ2 at home, you can do lesson 38 and then head to the Games and Improvisation rooms.
  • Complete your worksheet on “Grand Staff Lines and Spaces” for next class.  You can try your composition on the staff paper if you like.

Level 3B

Today in class, we worked on our songs in Concertmaster.  “Angry Birds” is coming along nicely!  Remember to keep your fingers in position so that you don’t lose your spot!  Work on the left hand part at home so that we can try our duets in a couple of weeks.  On the floor, you also got to make up a 2 bar melody starting and ending on Middle C.  Mason even tried one in 3/4 time, well done!  It was tricky trying to play them on the keyboard, especially when you added flats or sharps!  Great job today!

This Week @ Home

  • Write your own Composition at home on the page provided and bring to our next class.  Use a 4/4 Time Signature.
  • If you have CMJ3 at home, review your lessons from last week (80/81)  and then head to the Games and Improvisation Rooms.
  • Keep practicing “Ode to Joy” with both hands.  It is coming along nicely Alex!  Also work on your “Big C Twist” which we did today!
