Kingswood, P-2, Tuesday, 11:45-12:50 PM (Jan 31)

Hello Parents!

This was week three of MusIQ Club.

After eating our lunches I got Lachlan, Jo and Ethan working on their lesson 15 – “More Musical Steps” with Mr. Joplin. While they started I worked with the girls to review a few things. Sandra reviewed the musical alphabet, finding all the C notes on the keyboard and rhythm clap backs. Kyra and Daphne helped her out with those too. Sandra then went to the computer to try lesson 4 – “circle notes” with Mr. Beethoven. She learned to replace the high bird notes and low whale notes with circles, this is the first step toward reading “grown -up ” notes! Good job. Daphne and Kyra played a game called grand staff ladder, we reviewed the parts of the grand staff and then took turns taking a card which told us how to move our game piece up the grand staff, first to the top  wins!

Kyra went on to do lesson 39 where she learned about bar lines and 4/4 time signature with Mrs. Beech. She is now learning that in 4/4 time there can only be 4 beats in each bar. She did a  good effort on the worksheet I assigned last week.

Daphne did lesson 30 and practice room 30  – Review with Mr. Dvorak. She started Children’s Music Journey Vol 2 this week! She is working her way toward reading on the grand staff, and learning the note values of all the different types of notes.

After finishing lesson 15 Lachlan,  Jo, and Ethan did lesson & practice room 16 – “Stepping Songs”.  Then they worked on learning some cool new songs using all their fingers and reviewed the musical alphabet. When working with them at home parents please supervise their practice to make sure they are using all 5 fingers and not just playing every note with the pointer finger! This is very important!

Home work: Parents please print out the worksheets and have your child bring me the completed worksheet to the next class or else I won’t know they did it and I will keep assigning the same one!

Parents – in order to set the lesson or practice for you child at home, from the main screen of Children’s Music Journey find the circle on the lower right hand with three wrenches in it, that is the button to take you to the settings screen. on the settings screen there are three boxes on the top right, the first box you set the lesson number, in the second you set it to “beginning of level” for the lesson or “lesson completed” for the practice, the third box down should say “normal”

Remember, just 5-10 minutes practice a day can help your child advance by reinforcing the things we learn in class and keeping it fresh in their minds. This year the software in included in your registration fee all you need is a MIDI keyboard and the fun can continue all week. If you need an appropriate keyboard you can either log into your account to order one from the office or call the office to order it. The link for the software will be sent you your email  so if your child is already registered and you haven’t gotten the link yet check your spam box! Any problems with the download or installation contact the office.
