Winter Term, Week 3 @ WCES, gr. K-2

Here’s what we covered in week 3. Parents, please watch your email for a notice regarding the Carleton County Music Festival. It’s possible to enter your child in the festival under MusIQ Club if you wish to do so. There is also the possibility of doing group entries as well.

Hunter, Aidan, Tyler & (Lachlan was absent): Today we covered two lessons in class — lesson 13 & 14. Go into your settings in CMJ 1 to set it up in the right place.  The reason we covered two lessons is to make sure that the kids get 10 lessons in 8 weeks. The students didn’t seem to have any trouble covering both lessons and they were instructed (as usual) to complete Miss Melody at home. The main concepts that these boys are working on is together notes (playing notes at the same time), holding notes, finger numbers (right & left hand from middle C) and making a nice ‘ant tunnel’ (i.e. shape of their hands so an ant could crawl under their fingers) so their hands are placed properly on the piano. Please complete the following pages in the workbook if you haven’t done so already: The Music Alphabet Forward and Backwards, Moving by Step, Notes Stepping up and Notes Stepping Down. If you have any questions, feel free to post below.

Calum: Today we covered two lessons in class — lesson 28 & 29. Go into your settings in CMJ 2 to set it up in the right place.  The reason we covered two lessons is to make sure that the kids get 10 lessons in 8 weeks. The students didn’t seem to have any trouble covering both lessons and they were instructed (as usual) to complete Miss Melody at home. The main concepts that Calum is working on is holding notes, clapping rhythms, and the music alphabet forward and backwards. His music is also hand specific, so when he sees a RH or LH on the computer, he must play the note with that hand. Please complete the following pages in the workbook if you haven’t done so already: The White Keys, Note Values, The Staff, Reading Treble Clef C, D, and E. If you have any questions, please post them below.

Matteo: Today we covered two lessons in class — lesson 38 & 39. The main concepts that Matteo is working on is note values, reading lines and spaces, and clapping rhythms. He needs to be able to identify a note on the staff, so it’s important that he understands the music alphabet forward and backward. Please complete the following pages in the workbook if you haven’t done so already: The White Keys, Note Values, The Staff, Reading Treble Clef C, D, and E. If you have any questions, please post them below.

Griffin (absent): Griffin would have covered Lesson 2 and 3 in CMJ 1 software. He can try it at home and if he has any difficulties, it’s not a big deal to catch him up in class. The main concepts he’s working on is high and low, and now middle C is introduced by a picture of a man in a boat. This is key specific on the piano, and is in the middle of the keyboard to the left of a two black key group. Please complete the following pages in the workbook if you haven’t done so already: High Notes and Low Notes, Music Alphabet, Groups of 2 black keys, Middle C, MusIQ Club High and Low.  If you have any questions, please post them below.
