Hello Parents!
Welcome to week 2 of our class blog. I will be posting homework assignments here as well as keeping you, the parent, updated as to what we cover in each class.
Today, Sophie, Thomas, Grady, Martin, and Autumn were happy to welcome Josh and sam back to MusIQ club and our guest Logan.
We started off eating our lunches and once most of us were done we started the super fun keyboard race game! In this game each group gets 1 game piece and puts it on the lowest note of a keyboard. Then we take turns drawing a card that tells us how to move our game piece. It might say something like “move up to the next G”, or “moved down two white keys”, or even “move to middle C.” So we had to use the musical alphabet and our saying “two black keys down to C” to find which ever note we needed to move our piece to! Lots of fun
At the computers each child is at a different level in this class so I supervised while they worked on their individual lessons. Sophie did lesson 84 learning Interval of a 4th with Mr. Debussy she worked hard learning to play the new piece introduced last week called Musette. Thomas did lesson and practice room 66 – “Sharps” with Mr. Dvorak. Grady did lesson and practice 18 “Playing songs” with Miss Mendelssohn. Martin worked very hard on lesson 14 “Musical Alphabet” with Mr. Joplin. Both boys are doing a great job playing with all 5 fingers and making perfect ant tunnels to keep their fingers on the finger tips while they play. Autumn did lessons 29 and 30 today with Mr. Dvorak which were the end of the review section and next week she will meet her new teacher Mr. Mozart to start “grown up notes”. Sam and Josh did lesson 34 – treble clef – CDE with Mr. Mozart. They also worked in piano suite on “Let it Be”.
Away from the computers, Grady and Martin filled out the notes on a pretend keyboard using the musical alphabet. Sam and Josh did 4/4 and 3/4 rhythms for each other to try to clap.
We all finished with games, and improvisation room, I was able to circulate and check how each child was doing. Below is the homework for each child, print of the worksheet for your child and have them try to complete it and return it to me next week in class!

Remember parents, just 5-10 minutes practice a day can help your child advance by reinforcing the things we learn in class and keeping it fresh in their minds. This year the software in included in your registration fee all you need is a MIDI keyboard and the fun can continue all week. If you need an appropriate keyboard you can either log into your account to order one from the office or call the office to order it. The link for the software will be sent you your email so if your child is already registered and you haven’t gotten the link yet check your spam box! Any problems with the download or installation contact the office.
