Hello Parents!
Welcome to our second weekly class blog. I will be posting homework assignments here as well as keeping you, the parent, updated as to what we cover in each class.
Matthew, Eric, Gabriel, and I were very happy to welcome our 3 guests, Aden, Kalvin and Jared to our class, We missed Rylee who was sent home early because of the snow, see you next week Rylee!
We started off together on the floor with a review so Matthew, Eric and Gabriel could help our guests learn some of the cool stuff we learned last session. We talked about ”two black keys down to C” and “three black keys down to F” We reviewed the musical alphabet both forward and backward CDEFGABC and CBAGFEDC, and then when the boy noticed it wsa a pettern that matched up with the white notes of the keyboard we tried singing the alphabet starting on many differnt notes. We started on F, B, D and we noticed that the notes are always in the same order no matter where you start to sing it! Cool observation my friends. Next we tried a game call musical alphabet steps. In this game I hold up two cards if they notes are next to each other in the musical alphabet (and therefore next to each other on the piano) they could take one step, if they were not they had to stay still. They even got the tricky ones like G and A which in music do come next to each other!
At the computers Matthew did lesson and practice 16 “stepping songs” with Miss Mendelssohn and Miss Melody then lesson 17 too. He did very well and most importantly is using all his fingers and playing with a good position! Gabriel has been working very hard at home he did lesson 21 with Mr. Villa-Lobos. Eric did lessons 13 “two hands together” with Mr. Joplin. This lessons reviews hand position and works on both hands. He did a fantastic job, just watch when he practices at home that all fingers are being used and not just finger number 2 which is a habit many kids get into in these first few lessons. Our guests all did lessons 2 “middle C” and 3 “Tapping rhythms” with Mr. Beethoven! They opened up two cool games to play which work on learning whrer the high and low note and middle C are found on the keyboard. they all did a fabulous job and alos had fun exploring the librarywhere they can listen to music and the improvisation room where they can play with the sounds of many differnt types of instruments in all differnt syles.
We finished by listening to a cool song called ” In the Hall of the Mountain King” which tella story by using loud and soft and fast and slow notes. We acted out the story of a little boy who sneaks into the Troll King’s mountain castle.
Home work:

If you need an appropriate keyboard you can either log into your account to order one from the office or call the office to order it. The link for the software will be sent you your email so if your child is already registered and you haven’t gotten the link yet check your spam box!
