Ross Road Elementary, Grades P-2, Thursdays from 2.05-3.05 & 2.35-3.35 (Mar 11)

Hello Everybody!

We had a lovely lesson today! We began by clapping through our hand jive which was good fun, especially when it got faster and faster! We even tried to sing a song in two parts as we clapped the hand jive, but this was a bit tricky! Thanks to Olivia G leading one group, with some practice we were able to sing it in two parts! We’ll have another go after March Break!

Level 1B, Lesson 25 – Liam

  • Today, you met up with Miss Melody and reviewed everything that you’ve learned this term in MusIQ Club.
  • You played through some more songs for both hands using grown up notes!
  • Miss Melody reminded you that a whole note was worth 4 counts, a half note is worth 2 counts, a quarter note is worth 1 count and dotted half notes are worth 3 counts. Wow! What a lot to remember!
  • Then you played through even more songs to show just how well you can play now!
  • To finish off, you played some Games and visited the Improvisation Room for some fun!

  • If you haven’t had chance to complete this yet, print out and try this activity sheet all about whole, half, quarter and dotted half notes!

Level 2B, Lesson  50 – Samantha, Ethan, Olivia A and Callie

  • This week, you met up once more with Mr. Satie and you played through even more songs written on the Grand Staff.
  • Next, you had an important lesson today, all about playing with a steady beat!
  • Playing with a steady beat is sometimes even more important that getting the notes right! Imagine if everyone in a band couldn’t keep the beat and played at different speeds! What a nasty sound that would make!
  • You played through some rhythms with the woodpecker tapping out a steady beat. It was very tricky, but you tried hard!. Well done!
  • You had time to finish off the lesson by visiting the Games Room!

  • Well done, Talan. Today you completed your written assessment for Level 2!
  • You answered questions on your new scales, note values including eighth notes, dotted notes and ties, notes on the Grand Staff and more musical signs and terms.
  • The only area we need to concentrate on after March Break is identifying tones and semitones, which we talked about a little bit today.
  • At the keyboard you worked some more on your repertoire. I’m looking forward to hearing your pieces next time.

  • Well done, Olivia! You completed the written assessment for Level 4 today!
  • You answered questions on your level 4 scales, compound time signatures and triads and their inversions. Good job!
  • After your written assessment, you continued to work on your repertoire.
  • All your pieces are really coming on well, and I can’t wait to hear them after March Break!
  • To finish off, you logged into Children’s Music Journey and had fun in the Games Room.

Home Assignments for PS4

  • Print out the technique sheet for Level 4 and keep practising every day.
