Tantallon Elementary, Grades P-2, Tuesdays from 2.00-3.00 (Mar 9)

Hello Everybody!

We began this week with a fun rhythm session. Instead of just using our hands to make rhythm patterns, we used different parts of our bodies. We tapped our shoulders, our heads, our laps and even made our noses beep! Eventually, we even began to do the ‘hand jive!’ (Pancakes, potatoes and curly fries!)

Level 1A, Lesson 12 – Grace and Kira

  • At the computers, you met up with Mr Joplin once more and he helped you to work on your ant tunnels. This week we were concentrating on just our left hand.
  • Remember to keep all five fingers in a relaxed ant tunnel. Place your thumb on its side on Middle C, and all your other fingers on their fingertips on the neighbouring white notes.
  • Miss Melody helped you to play through even more circle note songs to practice playing notes going higher and higher, and lower and lower too! Well done!
  • To finish off the lesson, you had some free time in the Games Room!

Home Assignments for Level 1A

  • Practice making your five finger ant tunnels whenever you have a moment. Can you push down each finger in turn without the other fingers moving? (Finger number 4 is very tricky!)
  • Print out this wordsearch all about Mr Joplin!

Level 1B, Lesson 22 – Lauren, Sara and Simon

  • In Lesson 22, we met up again with Mr Villa Lobos. This week he taught us about even more grown up notes.
  • We learnt about half notes and quarter notes today. A half note is a white, or empty looking note with a stem and you hold it down for 2 counts. A quarter note is a black, or filled in note with a stem which you only hold for 1 count.
  • You played through even more songs with Miss Melody which used these new grown up notes. Great work!
  • To finish off the lesson, you spent some time in the Games Room and Improvisation Room to relax after all that playing! Good job!

Home Assignments for Level 1B

  • Try and use your five finger ant tunnels now whenever you play for fun on the piano!
  • If you haven’t already done this, have a go at this worsearch about Mr Villa Lobos!

Level 2A, Lessons 39 and 40 – Jack and Jasmine

  • Today you met up with Mrs Beach again at the computer.
  • She showed you a new sign today called a ‘repeat’ sign.
  • This sign happens at the end of a section of music, and it looks like a double bar line with 2 dots before it! When you see this sign, you must go back to the beginning of the section and repeat it (or play it all again!).
  • You played some songs written on the Grand Staff and read notes in the Bass and Treble clef. Just remember to always play the Bass Clef notes with your left hand and the Treble Clef notes with you right! :)

Home Assignments for Level 2B

  • Print out this activity sheet which is all about bar lines and repeat signs. Good Luck!
  • Have a go at these letter name tunes for some fun playing on your piano keyboard at home.

Level 2B, Lesson 51 – Jacob

  • Today you met a new teacher called Mr. Handel. He was born in Germany, in the same year as Mr. Bach, and he wrote lots of amazing music!
  • You reviewed steps, skips and repeats with Mr Handel, and then Miss Melody.
  • You played lots of songs on the Grand Staff today, some of them with the woodpecker too. You are getting much better at counting out each note value carefully, and playing in time with the beat. Well done, Jacob!
  • To finish off the lesson, you went to the Games Room for a while!

Home Assignments for level 2C

  • Print out a copy of Old Grey Goose to work on at home!
  • Print out and complete this wordsearch about Mr. Handel!
  • Read through this worksheet to remind yourself of all the notes you have learnt on the Grand Staff so far!

Have a great March Break!

See you next time,

Adele
