Hello Everybody!
We had a lovely lesson today! We began by clapping through our hand jive which was good fun, especially when it got faster and faster! We even tried to sing a song in two parts as we clapped the hand jive, but this was a bit tricky! We’ll try again after March Break!
Level 1B, Lesson 21 – Callum
Level 1B, Lesson 23 (Review) and 24 – Hayley , Weston and Amelia (See you next time, Scott.)
- This week, Callum worked through Lesson 21 where he met his new teacher, Mr Villa Lobos. He followed the notes moving in a stepping direction to play ‘Ode To Joy’ before heading to the Games Room. Well done, Callum!
- The rest of us visited Miss Melody for a quick reminder about the grown up notes you already know, half notes (2 beats) quarter notes (1 beat) and whole notes (4 beats).
- Then you moved onto the next lesson which helped you to review everything you’ve covered so far this term in MusIQ Club!
- To finish off, you played lots of games and even had time to visit the Improvisation Room!
Home Assignments for Level 1B
- If you didn’t have chance to do this yet, then print out this activity sheet and see if you can match up all those new grown up notes!
- Have a go at this worsearch about Mr Villa Lobos!
Level 2A, Lesson 40 - Nia and Luc
- Today you met up with Mrs Beach again at the computer.
- She showed you a new sign today called a ‘repeat’ sign.
- This sign happens at the end of a section of music, and it looks like a double bar line with 2 dots before it! When you see this sign, you must go back to the beginning of the section and repeat it (or play it all again!).
- You played some songs written on the Grand Staff and read notes in the Bass and Treble clef. Just remember to always play the Bass Clef notes with your left hand and the Treble Clef notes with you right!
Home Assignments for Level 2B
- Print out this activity sheet which is all about bar lines and repeat signs. Good Luck!
- Have a go at these letter name tunes for some fun playing on your piano keyboard at home.
Level 2C, Lesson 57 and 58 – Aidan, Madison and Jake
It was great to see you today, Aidan!
- Today in lesson 57, you practiced playing even more tunes written in 3/4 time. This means that each measure has 3 quarter beats. You have a very good sense of rhythm and so had no trouble with feeling 3 in a measure. Well done!
- Then in lesson 58, Mr Chopin taught you all about ties. Sometimes, a composer may want to use a note that it so long, it has too many beats for one measure. To get over this problem, the composer will write smaller notes which add together to make the long sound he wants, and then tie those smaller notes together over the barline! When you see two notes tied together, you have to add their total number of beats, and then hold the note for that length of time.
- You played some pieces of music written in 3/4 time which had lots of ties in them. Well done! You really understood these ideas well!
- You visited the Games Room and Improvisation Room to finish off today’s lesson!
Home Assignments for Level 2C
- Continue to work on Row, Row, Row !
- Try this work sheet. It’s all about ties!
Bye for now!
