Windsor Street Childcare Centre, Fridays from 9.30-10.30 (Mar 5)

Hi Everyone!

It was lovely to see you on Friday! This week we started the lesson with a great rhythm circle. Instead of just using our hands, we used different parts of our bodies to make cool sounds! We tapped our shoulders, our heads and made our noses beep! You were very good at watching what I was doing and copying it in time with the beat!

Lesson 14 Parker, Christopher, Sydney, Carter and Bella

  • This week, Mr Joplin helped you to play with all five fingers of both hands, starting with your thumb on Middle C. Make sure that you push the keys down firmly with each finger in turn.
  • Then, you read some circle note songs for finger one (your thumb) and finger 2 (your pointer finger) of each hand. These notes are next door neighbours on the keyboard, just one step away from each other.
  • Remember to keep your fingers slightly curved and use the very tips of your fingers to push the notes down. Your thumb relaxes and plays on its side!
  • To finish off, we had some free time in the Games Room and Improvisation Room.

Home Assignments

  • Print out this activity sheet to practice the Musical Alphabet once more!
  • Practice making your five finger ant tunnels whenever you have a moment. Can you push down each finger in turn without the other fingers moving? (Finger number 4 is very tricky!)

Lesson 12 Drea, Dallice, Joshua and Tim

  • This week, Mr Joplin helped us to make our five finger ant tunnels once more, but this time we used our left hand, with the notes going down. You placed your thumbs on Middle C, and then each finger sats on a neighbouring white note, leaving room for an ant to crawl underneath!
  • To finish off, we had some free time in the Games Room.

Home Assignments

  • If you haven’t done this yet, print out this sheet all about the Musical Alphabet. Can you trace over the letters?
  • Print out this sheet and see if you can write the correct letter on the white notes!

Lesson 9 – William BP, Joshua, Cale and William N.

  • We started today’s lesson by having another good look at the piano keyboard. We saw how the notes get higher and higher up to the right, and lower and lower down to the left.
  • At the computers, Mr Bach began by reminding you all about double notes which you learned about in your last lesson. This is where you use the pointer finger of each hand and play a high note and low note at the same time! You did very well with this today.
  • Then, Mr Bach went on to explain about circle notes going higher and higher, and lower and lower.
  • You had to look carefully at the circle notes and decide how high up above the middle C line they were, or how low down below the middle C line they were before you played. The higher up on the screen, the higher you played on the keyboard. The lower down on the screen, the lower you played.
  • This was a little difficult at first, but I’m sure that with some more practice next week with Miss Melody you’ll be great!
  • To finish off the lesson, you spent some time in the Games Room playing Jungle Girl, the Train Game and Princess Story.

Home Assignments

  • Ask your mum or dad, or a friend to sing 2 notes to you. Can you decide if they were getting higher, or getting lower? Try singing them back like an echo. Good luck!
  • Can you draw a circle note tune on a piece of blank paper? Try to include notes which go higher and higher, and lower and lower. If you bring it to Busy Bee next Thursday, you could play it for me!

Lesson 4 (Review) Jacob and Ava

Lesson 2 (Review) – Cameron

  • This week, Cameron met up with Miss Melody once more. She helped him to remember his last lesson with Mr Beethoven.
  • You learned all about that special note near the middle of the keyboard – Middle C!
  • The new picture we see on the computer which tells us to play Middle C is a man in a boat!
  • You played through lots of songs and played some fun games to help you find this note more and more quickly!
  • Ava and Jacob also worked with Miss Melody to remind themselves about circle notes.
  • Remember, if the circle is high up on the screen, play a high note! If it is low down on the screen, play a low note! If you see a circle sitting on a line in the middle of the screen, play Middle C!
  • Miss Melody helped you to play through some circle notes songs, and you all did much better than last week, so well done!
  • Finally, you all had time in the Games Room and the Improvisation Room for some fun to finish off the lesson!

Home Assignments

  • Print out this sheet and see if you can find your way out of the maze by going higher and higher!
  • Can you find Middle C on your keyboard? Keep making your own music at the piano. Try to use high notes, low notes and middle C’s in your music.

Bye for now!
