St. Joseph’s A. MacKay, February 23, 2010, 12:20-1:20, P-2

Today our teachers were Mr. Scott Joplin and Mr. Villa-Lobas. We learned that Mr. Joplin came from a very poor family and that his mother often accepted jobs cleaning houses of rich people who had pianos so that her son Scott could practice the piano while she worked. Mr. Joplin wrote many piano pieces which were called “Ragtime” and so he became known as the “King of Ragtime”. Some of his most famous pieces are “The Entertainer” and “The Maple-Leaf Rag”. Students today practiced double notes and notes ascending and descending from middle C.
