Beginner Level 1A
Today we missed Wendy, who is sick, but we completed lessons 4 and 5, where we continued repeating short rhythmic patterns based on words, and learned to replace the birds and whales in our notation with circle notes, and just a line for Middle C notes – no more sky and ocean. I have noticed a big improvement this week with how well you can repeat a rhythm of short and long sounds! I especially noticed that Taylor was doing an amazing job with this today! You all did a great job in the games room, and we had fun on the floor clapping rhythms and learning the musical alphabet forwards and backwards with the bigger kids. Today Mr. Beethoven taught us that some music is written to paint pictures for our ears and imaginations, and he played us his Moonlight Sonata, which sounds like moonlight dancing on the lake.
This Week @ Home
- In CMJ volume 1 (if you have it) review lesson 5 and have fun in the practice room. In the Games Room there are 3 games for you to play.
- Make up your own rhythmic patterns and clap or tap them. Try funny ones (My nose is a rose!), personal ones (My sister’s name is _____), yummy ones (I love to eat ________) and silly ones (Snakes are jig-gly, wig-gggly).
- Have fun with this worksheet which is a word search for words about Mr. Beethoven! It was great to see some finished worksheets this week! Good job, guys!
Level 2A
The Grade 2 and 3 students did Lesson 28, where we were using all ten fingers to play notes moving in steps. This is getting us ready for an easy transition to the Grand Staff in a couple of weeks. We also did some more rhythms, which seemed MUCH easier this week! There were games, and some more floor time to review note reading on the white board and the Musical Alphabet forwards and backwards. We also worked more on naming the white notes, which is what your worksheet is on this week. You had a great time in the Improvisation Room, makign up your own music and starting to learn the song I handed out, a Valentine’s song called Love Somebody. Awwww.
This Week @ Home
- Review your finger numbers (thumbs are #1).
- Print and complete this worksheet to practice reading notes that are moving up and down, away from and towards Middle C.
- Try Love Somebody at home. This was a pink handout from class, email me if it did not make it home. Place fingers 1 2 3 4 5 on the white keys C D E F G to play this little tune. Work one line at a time at first, as we are new with using the letter names of the white notes!
- Try clapping these rhythms with an adult at home. Remember to clap on the “&”s: 1 2 3&4 , 1&2 3&4, 1 2 3 4, 1 2 3 4&, 1&2&3&4, 1&2&3 4, etc. You can make up your own, too!
- If you have CMJ2 at home, review Lesson 28 with Miss Melody each day and then head to the Games Room.
