Level 2:
We started off the class in a circle, and spent some time talking about dynamics. Dynamics are markings in music that tell us what level of “loudness” is needed for a particular piece, or section of music. Piano(P) means soft, Forte (F) means loud. Mezzo Forte (MF) is medium loud, Mezzo Piano (MP) is medium soft. After this discussion, you all headed to the pianos and spent a few minutes improvising, using different dynamics. Great work!
You then spent some time working on Happy Birthday, and I also handed out a sheet with Old MacDonald printed on it. Good work. Remember to practice Old MacDonald at home as we are going to be playing it as a group next week!
To finish off the class, you practised Daydream Believer, and had a bit of time to play games. Fantastic work. See you all next Friday!
Things To Work On:
1- Print and work on this technique sheet.
2- Practice Old MacDonald.
3- Improvise and have fun every day!
Level 3:
You both started off the class by practising March Militaire. This song is a little on the long side, but don’t forget that certain sections repeat themselves, which means you only have to learn it once, and play it twice. Good work! If ever you have trouble with a section of a piece, take the time to work on the rhythm, then each hand separately, and finally put the hands together. It should be much easier!
We then took some time to go over our triads again. You both did very well with your verbal and practical triad quiz, and we also took the time to find the inversions of the C, G and F triad on the piano keyboard. Great work!
You then spent some time working on Old MacDonald, and to finish off the class, you had a bit of time for games. Great work you two! See you both next week!
Things To Work On:
1- Practice this technique sheet.
2- Work on Old MacDonald.
3- Practice playing different triads and their inversions!
