Tantallon Elementary, Grades P-2, Tuesdays from 2.00-3.00 (Oct 14)

Hi Everyone! What a great lesson we had yesterday!

Level 1, Lesson 2 - Brett, Keenan, Sara, Simon, Lauren and Nyah

  • You remembered a lot about the life and times of Mr. Beethoven!
  • You looked at the keyboard and noticed that the black notes were grouped in two’s and three’s!
  • We talked about the Musical Alphabet – A B C D E F and G.
  • You learnt all about the special note ‘Middle C’ and how to find it on the keyboard.
  • You practised songs which had high and low notes, and Middle C’s!
  • You had fun in the Games Room and created great music in the Improvisation Room.

Home Assignments for the Week

  • Try to use the black keys, and the phrase ‘Group of two, Down to C’ to help you find all the C’s on your piano at home!
  • Print out this wordsearch all about Mr. Beethoven. Please bring it to class next week!

Level 1B, Lesson 14 – Jack and Jasmine

  • You worked with Mr. Joplin and played through some songs for two hands together
  • You read the circle notes on the screen and worked out if the note was above or below Middle C!
  • We talked about the Musical Alphabet – A B C D E F and G!
  • We spent some time trying to feel ’3 beats in a bar’ and ’4 beats in a bar’. Remember to try and feel the louder first beat each time.
  • You played some Games and visited the Improvisation Room for some relaxing fun!

Home Assignments for the Week

  • Keep making your ant tunnels, even when you’re not near a piano! You could practice making ant tunnels on your knee, or a table! Try to push down each finger in turn, without the other fingers moving!
  • Print out this wordsearch to find out a little more about Mr. Scott Joplin! We’ll talk about this composer more next week!
  • Listen to the music you hear on the radio and see if you can tell whether the beats are in groups of three, or groups of 4!

Level 2A, Lesson 31 – Jacob

Today you met a new teacher called Mr Moazrt. He was born in a country called Austria, in Europe. His father was also a musician and a music teacher, so it was no surprise when Mozart showed interest in playing the piano. However, Mozart wasn’t just good at playing piano, even as a young boy he was brilliant! When he was only 5 years old he began composing his own music, and by the time he was 6 he was an excellent pianist playing for the royal families all across Europe!

Here are some of the things you worked on with Mr Mozart this week;

  • You played through more circle note songs with both hands
  • You learnt even more grown up notes and played them with lovely ant tunnels!
  • We talked about how to write whole, half, quarter and dotted half notes!
  • We revised our finger numbers
  • You had time in the Games Room and Improvisation Room to relax!

Home Assignments for the Week

  • Print out this worksheet to help remind you all about whole, half, dotted half and quarter notes!
  • Keep practising the musical alphabet…backwards!
  • Keep improvising and having fun on the piano at home

  1. Hi Adele,
Thank you for sending us weekly updates. I love hearing about the activities so that Sara and I can talk about it at home. She loves having the piano at home and we are sure to work on it again this week.

Please let me know if there’s anything I;ve missed as we are all still adjusting to me being at school all day. Thanks so much.
