Windsor Street Childcare Centre, Tuesdays from 9.30-10.30 am (July 7)

Hi Everybody, and welcome to MusIQ Club!

Today we began by introducing ourselves, and talking a bit about music. You told me the types of music you like to listen to, and some of you said that you had even played on a musical instrument before! I showed you the keyboards, and for some of you today was the first time you ever played on a piano keyboard! Fantastic!

On the floor, we had a quick rhythm circle, where I tapped a rhythm on my drum, and you clapped the rhythm back to me. You were all so good! Then you each had a turn tapping out your own rhythms for the group to clap back. Great job everyone!

At the computers, you met your first animated teacher, Mr. Beethoven. He was a great composer who lived over 200 years ago in a country called Germany. He wrote music for every instrument which had been invented at that time! Sadly for Beethoven, he began to lose his hearing. By the time he died when he was 57 years old, he was completely deaf, and couldn’t hear any of his beloved music at all!

Mr Beethoven taught you all about high and low notes today. He showed you that the high ‘bird’ notes were up to the right on the keyboard, and the low ‘whale’ notes were down to the left. You followed the pictures of birds and whales on the computer screen to play some great songs. Well done for concentrating so hard!

After you finished your lesson, you went to the Games Room. Here you found 2 games which helped you to practice high and low notes whilst having lots of fun! To finish off the lesson, you visited the Improvisation Room where you had fun exploring the different sounds you could make on the keyboard!

It was lovely to meet you all this week, and I look forward to seeing you all again next Tuesday!

Bye for now!

Adele
