Level 1:
We began class with each of you learning the C Major scale, first with your right hand, and then with your left hand. When playing this scale, you start on a C, and play every white key until you reach the next C. The fingering you use for your right hand on the way up is: 1-2-3-1-2-3-4-5 and on the way down it is 5-4-3-2-1-3-2-1.
Your left hand fingering on the way down is 1-2-3-1-2-3-4-5 and then on the way back up it is 5-4-3-2-1-3-2-1. Great job everyone!
After practicing the scale for a few minutes, we all went into the piano player and you each practiced a few different songs of your choice.
One of you decided to head into the theory thinker, and learn about sharps and flats as well. Good work! It’s always good to learn things a little ahead of schedule if you are comfortable with the material we have already covered.
To finish the class off, we went to the Improvisation Room, where you once again took a few moments to work on your C Major scale, and to try and improvise, using only the notes from this scale! Good work everyone! See you all next week!
Home Assignments For The Week & Reminders:
1- Print out this page and identify the notes on it. Please bring it to class next week!
2- Print out this page and draw in the bar lines according to the time signatures!
3- Write out your own rhythms and practice clapping them. Bring a few to class next week.
4- Improvise every day and remember to always have FUN! (Don’t forget to work on the pieces from last week!)
Levels 2 & 3:
We started off the class today with both of you heading into the Ear Training Coach, to work on identifying various intervals as well playing back rhythms. You are both getting very good with your listening skills! Good work!
Heading into the Piano Player, you each worked on Old MacDonald, hands together, and then took some time to work on the pieces you have each been practicing over the past couple of weeks. Don’t forget to always take your time to READ the notes instead of just guessing what they are by watching for the red X’s on the computer screen!
We then headed over to the table and you both worked together to place all the tone and semi tone fish into the proper bowls. GREAT WORK! You didn’t make a single mistake! Consider your tones and semitones CONQUERED!
To finish off the class, you headed back to the Piano Player, and also spent a little time in the Improvisation Room. Great work girls! See you next Friday!
