Good work today! Nickelo, Jansyn and Aly… I’ve moved you ahead a few levels, because I think you’re ready for more challenging music.
Level 1A (Aidan, Grant, William, Patrick Emily and Madison) completed lesson 4 with Mr. Beethoven. We are learning how to read music notes above middle C and below middle C. Do you remember how to find middle C? Do you remember how it is written on the page? Middle C comes before the group of 2 black keys in the middle of your piano keyboard, and it is the note with the line through it in the middle of the page. We practiced counting rhythms and also saying rhythmic word phrases. Make sure to feel the beat when you do these at home. Try playing some 4 beat rhythms for your Mom or Dad and see if they can clap them back.
Level 2A
Nickelo completed lesson 28, and Emma and Jessica completed lesson 30 with Mr. Dvorak. Your songs in Middle C position are getting more difficult now, playing notes out of order (not just stepping up and down). I was very impressed how well you could play these songs. Remember to practice playing in time. Keep a steady beat, and try to keep your notes moving smoothly, with curved fingers. You learned about different length of holding notes today: quarter notes, half notes, dotted half notes and whole notes. Do you remember what each one of them looks like?
Level 2B (Allison and Jansyn) completed lesson 40 today with Mrs. Beach. Today you learned about repeat signs. A repeat sign is a double-barline with 2 dots next to it – it means to go back to the start and play the song again. How is your counting going? You two are playing your songs very well. One thing you should try to think about while you play is counting quarter notes, half notes, dotted half notes and whole notes. Do you remember what each type of note looks like? If you have the CMJ software at home, you can play the game Metronome soup, to help you recognize the different types of notes more quickly.
At the end of class, we reviewed the musical alphabet and practiced identifying high notes and low notes. We also practiced hearing notes getting higher and higher and notes getting lower and lower.
Great job today everyone. See you next week!
