We had a good class today. I was happy to welcome Bess Doig to her first MusIQ Club class, and Breagh Burke and Reece Fraser to their second year in MusIQ Club. Great to see you again!
We began our lesson by reviewing the concepts from last week: Reading Notes on the Grand Staff, and the Letter Names of the Piano Keyboard. We talked about the different parts of the staff, where to find Middle C, where to find Bass C, and how to count up and down from those notes by line and space, using the musical alphabet. Then, we went and practiced our song ‘Old Grey Goose’. Great work to Bess, Reece and Breagh, who were trying this for their first time. I handed out practice sheets today, so that everyone can try this song at home. Remember to hold the half notes for 2 beats, and the quarter notes for 1 beat. For Miguel, you learned a new song today – “Clementine”. Very good playing! You scored an 87% at your peak. Let’s see if you can top that next week
After practicing our songs, we watched some videos in the Theory Thinker about Line Notes and Space Notes. There is a quick way for you to remember the line notes and space notes in the treble clef. Do you remember the 2 rhymes? Every Good Boy deserves Fudge (for the line notes), and FACE (for the space notes). This an easy way of finding the letter name of notes in the treble clef staff, if you recite the appropriate rhyme starting at the bottom and working up. To help us understand how these rhymes work, we played a game of ‘Faceoff’ to see who could name the notes on the Grand Staff the fastest.
You’re pretty good with the Treble Clef Staff. We’ll watch the videos for the Bass clef staff next week.
At the end of class everyone played games and improvised in the Children’s Music Journey Software.
Well done! Have a Happy Thanksgiving weekend.
