Inglist Street Elementary, Grades 3-6, Fridays 3:30-4:30 (Oct 10)

Level 1:

We started off today’s class by learning all about the Grand Staff… The Treble Clef, the Bass Clef,  we also learnt all about the different types of notes we find on the staff as well!

Taking a quick moment to review the things we learnt last week, such as hand and body posture, we took some time to practice saying our Musical Alphabet forwards and backwards, as well as our note reading.

Notes on the Treble Clef can be read by using guide phrases. The phrase for the lines is: Every Good Boy Deserves Fudge and for the spaces it is F-A-C-E.

The Bass Clef guide phrase for lines is: Good Boys Deserve Fudge Always and the spaces is All Cows Eat Grass. Just use the first letter of each word, and you have the letters on the staffs. Don’t forget where Middle C is! Great work everyone! See you all in two weeks!

Home Assignments For The Week:

1- Print out a few songs from this page and practice them at home!

2- Print out and identify the notes on this page.

3- Spend plenty of time improvising, and always HAVE FUN!

Level 2:

We started off the class today by practicing Let It Be for a short while. Following this, we learnt that semitones are the closest possible space between two notes. Usually, a semitone is found from a white note to a black note, with the exception of B-C as well as E-F which are a semitone apart.

Tones are two semitones worth of distance. Usually, they will be from one white note to the next, or one black note to the next.

We also learnt that every note in a scale can be identified with a Roman Numeral. The numerals for C Major are: C=I D=II E=III F=IV G=V A=VI B=VII.

To finish off the class, we spent some time practicing Happy Birthday from level two! Great work everyone! See you all in two weeks!

Home Assignments For The Week:

1- Print out Get Up if you are looking for something to practice at home.

2- Work on any other pieces you have at home.

3- Practice your C Major scale, with each hand separately and then, hands together in contrary motion!
