Hi Everyone!
We had a great second class! It was really great to see that everyone had remembered what we had learned the week before and they were all ready to learn something new!
CMJ 1A – Today we began our class by reviewing Hi and Low notes, and naming some things in the world that make these sounds. We identified all of the groups of two and three black notes, and played them for everybody to hear. We did Lesson 2 with Mr. Beethoven, practicing and learning more on Hi and Low notes and Middle C. We played games with these concepts, and practiced in the practice room with Miss Melody. We also reviewed what we had learned about Beethoven and his famous composition Fur Elise, as well as Greig and In the Hall of the Mountain King. We talked again about the musical alphabet, and solved the order with the flashcards. We ended in the improvisation room. Remember that improvisation is making up music using our imaginations. We tried to incorporate Middle C’s into our improvisations.
CMJ 1B – We began our class today with Lesson 14 – ‘Musical Steps – Musical Alphabet’ with Mr. Joplin. We practiced these concepts in the practice room with Miss Melody and then played games in the games room centering around these ideas. We played a game with the whole class, which helped us review our musical steps. If the two flash cards are notes that are side by side, the students may take a step forward. If they are not students must stay where they are. We did some C Position playbacks with the Right Hand, with 3 finger numbers. We also reviewed groups of 3 and 4 beats. Rememeber that the most common group is 4 and it is also called Common time, and groups of 3 beats are used for Waltzes. We tried our groups of 3 and 4 on a drum. We finished our class in the improvisation room, really trying to concentrate on groups of 3 and 4 beats.
CMJ 2B – We started our class today with Lesson 41 – ‘Right Hand F’ with Mr. Tchaikovsky. We practiced this with Miss Melody and then went to the games room and played some games centering around these concepts. We learned all about Tchaikovsky and his life and his music. We reviewed the Bass Clef notes C, B, A and Treble Clef notes C, D, E and F on the Grand Staff. Here we also played a Grand Staff game which helped us remember all of our notes. We did some C Position playback with the Right Hand. We finished the class in the improvisation room, where we made up songs in the Middle C position, and using C as our home base. Here were needed to make sure that our songs began on C and ended on C.
Great work everyone! I look forward to seeing you next week!
