We had a fun class today.
Some of you invited a friend, so we had different partners today, but still the same levels.
Level 1A (Parker, Lenka and Mercedes) completed lesson 3 of the software today. We learned about rhythm, which was very exciting! Rhythm is when there are long sounds and short sounds in music, overtop of a steady beat. There is a natural rhythm in language, when we talk. We played a game making up sentences like “I like kitty cats” and “My sister eats cake”. The words with two syllables have short sounds and the words with only one have long sounds. We practiced clapping lots of different sentences, and everyone seemed to understand after visiting Mr. Beethoven and Ms. Melody to reinforce the concepts.
Level 1B (Jillian and Rachel) completed Lesson 19 today. You reviewed ‘Middle C position’ and notes moving by step. You played the songs ‘Mary had a little lamb’ and ‘Mary had a big fat sheep’ in Middle C position. Then, we talked about the musical alphabet and practiced naming notes backwards. At the end of class you played games and improvised/recorded some tunes.
Level 2B (Radka – Tara was absent today) completed Lesson 39 with Miss Beach. We practiced reading music in the Grand Staff. We discussed where middle C is found on the staff, and how to read by step and skip based on middle C position, using line notes and space notes. You played some easy songs with your right hand in the Treble Clef (upper staff), and left hand in the Bass Clef (lower staff). Then, we reviewed half notes, quarter notes and whole notes and improvised/recorded some tunes.
Excellent work everyone. I’ll see you all next week!
